Viola and Violin Lessons with Rebecca Blom Carle

General Philosophy

In her teaching approach, Rebecca Carle strives to cater to each student's personal learning style and needs.  Having received teacher training from the Suzuki Association of the Americas, attended a variety of teaching sessions at professional conferences and having learned viola as a student in a "traditional" method, Rebecca is comfortable in balancing approaches based on the best fit for each student.  However, she believes strongly in the philosophy and teachings of Shinichi Suzuki, specifically in the belief that all students, regardless of age, previous training, or preconceptions of their own "musical talent" can successfully learn to play the violin or viola.

Teacher Biography

Rebecca Carle is a dedicated viola and violin teacher and active violist in the local NH musical community.  Her musical training on viola started at age eight with participation in the public school string music program, private lessons, and small chamber ensemble performances.  Throughout high school, she participated in multiple performing opportunities in large and chamber ensembles, including joining the Schenectady Symphony as one of a handful of student members.  During her undergraduate studies at Macalester College, Rebecca played in the Symphony Orchestra, string quartets, student conducting workshops, and composition class final projects, while continuing her private study of viola.  After taking time off from playing while completing a Master of Liberal Arts Degree at the University Pennsylvania, pursuing a career in museum collections management and starting a family, Rebecca rediscovered the joy of playing viola as an adult.

Rebecca is currently Principal Violist of the Nashua Chamber Orchestra.  She has performed in the orchestra of Milla Fliatova's Piano Academy Concerto Project, joined the pit orchestras of a number of local musical theater productions,  and played viola for the premier of Jonah:  a Chamber Opera.  Additionally, she has played with the New Hampshire Philharmonic, and the Connecticut River Valley Orchestra.  Rebecca studied privately with Stella Anderson, and John Bosela and gained additional ensemble training from Mary Bud Horozaniecki.

Rebecca has an active teaching studio of dedicated viola and violin students studying in her New Boston studio.  She is also on the faculty of the Manchester Community Music School, providing private instruction in the Suzuki program, in traditional methods, and in the early childhood Suzuki preparation classes.  Rebecca is also the lead String Instructor of the New Boston Central School's String Program, since its start in fall 2015.  Previously, she served as a guest instructor and substitute at the Manchester Community Music School and as a long term substitute studio instructor at Concord Community Music School.

Dedicated to her own continuing education, Rebecca has completed and registered the Suzuki Association of the Americas' (SAA) Books 1, 2, and 3 Teacher Training courses on Violin. She is registered for Ohio State University's String Teacher Workshop in July 2016. She attended the Body Mapping pre-conference seminar at the American String Teachers Association Annual Conference, 2013.  She has also attended additional training on teaching vibrato and establishing a strong and well-balanced violin/viola set-up.
